It mirrors the interval between the barley and wheat harvests in ancient Israel, with an omer being a unit of measure for grain. Each night during this period, the count of days is performed with a blessing known as "Sefirat HaOmer." According to Kabbalistic tradition, these days correspond to the purification of specific divine qualities within oneself, referred to as "Sefirot."
